FOX Follows 'Juniors' with 'Performing As'
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX will switch from kids to grown ups later this summer as the network announced yesterday "Performing As" is set to bow Tuesday, August 26 at 8:00/7:00c.

The project, previously known as "Soundmix," follows ordinary folks being transformed into their favorite pop stars via detailed backdrops, elaborate costuming, extensive makeup and dance lessons. Sort of a cross between ABC's "Extreme Makeover" and MTV's "Becoming," each week five contestants compete to advance to the finale, in which the winner receives a yet-to-be-determined prize. Six episodes of the series have been ordered with the final episode featuring the winners of the five previous installments.

"Performing" will take the place of "American Juniors" on FOX's schedule, which is set to close its run the week of August 19.

Meanwhile FOX also outlined a few other changes in store for its late summer schedule:

-- "Keen Eddie" will take a powder after tonight's airing until August 28. Various specials and NFL pre-season games will take over its new Thursday slot until that date. So far FOX plans to run four more episodes of "Eddie," taking the network up to the official start of the 2003-04 season.

-- Viewers will get a second chance to see the debut of FOX's new series "The O.C." The network plans to encore the show's pilot episode on Thursday, August 7 at 9:00/8:00c, two days after its August 5 bow.

-- The network has also extended its run of reality series "Anything for Love" and "Stupid Behavior Caught on Tape." New episodes will run Mondays at 8:00/7:00c and 8:30/7:30c respectively beginning next month.

-- Lastly, while exact dates remain undetermined, FOX plans to roll out the third season of "Temptation Island" at some point in late August or early September.
