"LOVETOWN, USA" PREMIERES SUNDAY, AUGUST 19 ON OWN: OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK
Georgia Town Participates in Unique Social Experiment on Love
Last spring, Oprah Winfrey traveled to Kingsland, Georgia with two acclaimed matchmakers to kick-off a 30-day social experiment challenging residents to focus on building love in their community. The town's efforts are the focus of a new series, "Lovetown, USA," premiering on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on Sunday, August 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Real-life "Hitch" Paul Carrick Brunson and "love architect" Kailen Rosenberg were given the task of transforming the community in 30 short days, attempting to mend relationships of embattled friends and lovers and find true love for singles with people living in their own back yard. Involving everyone from the mayor to grade school students, the social experiment examined the effects love, grace, kindness and forgiveness can have on an entire community.
In the premiere episode, Winfrey travels to Kingsland and the matchmakers Paul and Kailen get to work helping singles find love, throwing a mixer to bring all the single people in town together to spark some romance and observe how they mix and mingle. Throughout the season, Paul and Kailen use their skills as relationship coaches and community organizers to help broken families find solace; feuding neighbors and business rivals finally break years of silence; married couples renew their vows in a community-wide wedding renewal ceremony and citizens of the community that have never participated in social and philanthropic events come together in the spirit of love.
"Lovetown, USA" is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions for OWN. Bruce Toms is executive producer. Izzie Pick Ashcroft, Rob Bagshaw and Jane Tranter are executive producers for BBC Worldwide Productions. Charlie Debevoise and Mark Hickman are executive producers for NorthSouth Productions.
