MAN SEEKING WOMAN (FX, New!) - "Saturday Night Live" alum Simon Rich has booked a pilot order at the cable channel for a new comedy based on his book "The Last Girlfriend on Earth," which is billed as "a sweet, surreal, and bitingly funny look at the life and death stakes of dating in New York City." Jonathan Krisel ("Portlandia") is directing the half-hour, which is set up at Broadway Video Television and FX Productions with the former's Lorne Michaels among the executive producers. UNTITLED JOHN LEGEND/TROY CARTER PROJECT (Showtime, New!) - Singer John Legend and his manager Troy Carter are developing a new comedy at the pay channel set in the world of high-profile music managers and based on their own experiences in the business. Austin Winsberg ("Gossip Girl") has been tapped to pen the half-hour, which is set up at Universal Cable Productions. Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius then will executive produce via their Get Lifted Film Co. banner alongside Carter and Winsberg. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - James Gandolfini, who won three Emmys for his work on "The Sopranos," has died after a suspected heart attack at the age of 51 (THR.com); Sienna Guillory is exiting NBC's midseason drama "Believe" and her character, hit-woman Moore, is being written out (THR.com); ReelzChannel has pulled the plug on its entertainment series "The Big Picture" following a "disastrous" taping of the debut installment (Deadline.com); Doug Savant will guest on "Rizzoli & Isles" as "a mock trial adviser whose colleague dies suddenly during a competition" (EW.com); and Seth MacFarlane will lend his voice to Fry's tragically loyal canine, Seymour, in an episode of "Futurama" which will also see Sarah Silverman reprise her role as Michelle, Fry's girlfriend from the 20th century (EW.com).
