DISCOVERY CHANNEL VENTURES INTO THE PERILOUS WORLD OF KODIAK ISLAND, ALASKA IN NEW SERIES "KODIAK"

- Four Part Series Premieres May 14th at 10pm ET/PT -

(LOS ANGELES, CA) Kodiak Island is one of the most remote places on Earth. Home to some of the best fishing and deadliest hunting on the planet, Kodiak Island is a land of natural treasures that lures sportsmen from all around the world. The island is made up of 3,500 square miles of virtually untouched, harsh Alaskan wilderness, frequented by deadly predators and erratic weather. For a group of guides leading hunters and anglers to the wild edge, every day is a roll of the dice. Life here is tough. In Discovery Channel's new four-part series KODIAK, premiering Wednesday May 14th at 10pm ET/PT, viewers will experience the struggles of three multi-generational families risking it all to make a living in this in this dangerous environment.

KODIAK chronicles the lives of the Mays, the Hollands, and the Cusacks, who converge together each fall to run Bob May's remote hunting and fishing lodge in one of the most dangerous archipelagos in the world. Even for the most experienced outdoorsmen, survival on Kodiak Island is a daily struggle. The three families subsist on what the islands and surrounding seas provide, while they guide hunters into the deep, dark rainforest, teeming with the largest land carnivore on earth: The Kodiak Brown Bear. The island, referred to by the locals as 'The Rock', is populated by as many as 3,500 Kodiak bears - one for every square mile of land - each weighing in at over 1,500 pounds. Too many bears ultimately means starvation for the species, so carefully regulated hunting is the only solution. For those who struggle who call Kodiak Island home, each and every day brings new challenges.

"Alaska has always been surrounded by a veil of mystique, and several of our highest rated shows take place there. We introduced our viewers to the gold miners of Porcupine Creek in GOLD RUSH... the tight-knit community of Tanana in YUKON MEN... the Kilcher family of Homer in ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER... the bush pilots of Unalakleet in FLYING WILD ALASKA... and now we are excited to introduce our viewers to the legendary forests and waters of Kodiak Island, one of the most dangerous and isolated places on Earth," said Denise Contis, Executive Vice President of Production and Development for Discovery Channel.

KODIAK is produced for Discovery Channel by Orion Entertainment and Discovery Studios. Chris Dorsey is executive producer for Orion Entertainment and Daniel Soiseth is executive producer for Discovery Studios. For Discovery Channel, Joseph Boyle is executive producer with Sydney Clover as associate producer.
