BLEACHERS NAMED VH1'S AUGUST YOU OUGHTA KNOW ARTIST
Santa Monica, CA, July 21, 2014 - VH1 announced today that Bleachers has garnered the coveted "You Oughta Know" artist label for the month of August 2014. As VH1's "You Oughta Know" selection for the month of August, Bleachers will benefit from significant cross-platform promotion via frequent music video plays, a custom promo spot, interview on VH1's music-oriented Tuner blog, VH1's Top 20 Countdown, and much more.
Bleachers debut album "Strange Desire" came out last week and was praised by critics across the board, "Strange Desire is full of hooks and full of heart" wrote USA Today. Bleachers first single 'I Wanna Get Better' was called "an ecstatic first taste" by SPIN and is currently #2 at Alt radio.
Since its launch in 2005, VH1's "You Oughta Know" franchise has introduced promising new artists on the rise and served as a barometer for what and who's hot in music today. Many "You Oughta Know" artists have gone on to win industry awards and accolades including "Best New Artist" Grammy Awards and nominations. This highly acclaimed franchise has helped break artists such as Adele, Ed Sheeran, Foster the People, Gotye, The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, The Civil Wars and many, many more.
Hailing from New Jersey, 30 year old Jack Antonoff has been in the music scene for over a decade. In 2002, with Jack as the lead singer, the success of New Jersey born indie rock band Steel Train was well underway. Steel Train's cult following lead them to make their national television debut on Late Night With Conan O'Brien and later appeared on Late Show With David Letterman. In 2008, Jack joined Nate Ruess and Andrew Dost to form the Grammy award winning fun.
In addition to being a multi-talented musician, Jack is a critically acclaimed songwriter and producer. His achievements include fun. being honored with the Vanguard Award at the 2014 ASCAP Pop Music Awards and co-writing fun.'s Grammy award winning song "We Are Young" and Grammy nominated album Some Nights. He also received a Golden Globe nomination for his collaboration with Taylor Swift on her song "Sweeter Than Fiction." Jack has also worked with Sara Bareilles, co-writing her Grammy nominated hit "Brave", and Canadian Indie icons Tegan and Sara.
