TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. (WGN America, New!) - William Friedkin's cult 1985 movie - about "a fearless Secret Service agent who will stop at nothing to bring down the counterfeiter who killed his partner" - is being developed as a TV series at the network. Bobby Moresco (Crash) will pen the updated take, which presumably will once again be based on Gerald Petievich's novel, with Friedkin himself attached to direct and executive produce for MGM Television and Tribune Studios. As is custom with WGN America, the project is being developed as a script-to-series order. (Deadline.com)
TRIAL (Amazon; W: David E. Kelley & Jonathan Shapiro; D: TBA) - Oscar-winner Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves) is reportedly in talks to star in the drama pilot, about Billy McBride: "Once a big and powerful lawyer, Billy has become a shell of his former self, an alcoholic in a rumpled suit. Billy's downfall came after he lost a case that saw an innocent kid murdered, and his guilt-driven alcoholism cost him his wife and his job after his longtime partner Cooper turned on him and kicked him out of their law firm. Still hanging onto his dry charisma, Billy is now going head-to-head against Cooper, bringing a case against his former partner, which begins to stir in him his old ambition." Said casting would trigger a 10-episode straight-to-series order, bypassing the streaming service's usual pilot process. Ross Fineman also serves as an executive producer. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - George Hodgman's bestselling memoir "Bettyville" is being developed as a half-hour dramedy from Paramount Television, writer John Hoffman and fellow executive producers Amy Nauiokas and Anne Carey (Deadline.com).
