BEACHES (Lifetime, New!) - Idina Menzel is set to topline a remake of the Bette Midler/Barbara Hershey-led 1988 feature, which "follows the serendipitous meeting of two youngsters, CC and Hillary, on the Venice Boardwalk, who, though worlds apart in lifestyle, embark on unexpected and lifelong friendship. Menzel's CC is an aspiring singer trying to make it in Los Angeles until she is discovered by a director who gives CC her first big shot. Hillary is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who struggles to find her own destiny. Their friendship-even with its ups and downs-sustains them for decades." Allison Anders will direct from a script by Bart Baker and Nikole Beckwith with Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan executive producing for A+E Studios. Production begins next month. (Deadline.com)
DISJOINTED (Netflix) - Young Australian actor Dougie Baldwin has joined the cast of the Kathy Bates-led comedy. He'll play Pete, "a budtender at Ruth's dispensary whose passion is growing and developing pot strains. He admires Ruth and looks to her for inspiration." (Deadline.com)
FRESH OFF THE BOAT (ABC) - Creator Nahnatchka Khan has inked a three-year overall deal with producer 20th Century Fox Television. The pact will cover her duties on the series as well as call for her to develop new projects via her Fierce Baby Productions banner. (Deadline.com)
IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS, THE (HBO) - Rocky Carroll ("NCIS") is the latest addition to the original movie as Sonny Lacks, "Henrietta's (Renee Elise Goldsberry) third child." (Deadline.com)
LOSING IT (ABC, New!) - D.J. Nash ("Truth Be Told") has sold a single-camera family comedy to the Alphabet about "three misfit adult siblings and their parents who - between divorce, new parenthood, early-onset dementia and let's just say life - are all losing it in different ways. And family is the only way they're going to find it." The project, which has a penalty attached, comes from ABC Studios with Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan also executive producing. MACGYVER (CBS) - Amy Acker ("Person of Interest") will guest on the show's second episode as "a CIA operative who was working undercover in Caracas, gathering intel on an international arms dealer, when his organization kidnapped her." (TVLine.com)
MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE, THE (Amazon) - Tate Donovan will recur on the new season as George Dixon, "a mysterious figure from Juliana's (Alexa Davalos) past." (Deadline.com)

QUANTICO (ABC) - Henry Czerny's Matthew Keyes - "a CIA operative who in last season's final episode, approaches and tries to entice Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) to leave the FBI and join the CIA" - is slated to return when the series kicks off its second season. (Deadline.com)
SCREAM QUEENS (FOX) - Jerry O'Connell and Laura Bell Bundy are the latest actors tapped for mystery roles on the new season. (EW.com)
SNOWFALL (FX) - Carter Hudson, Angela Lewis, Juan Javier Cardenas, and Filipe Valle Costa are the latest to board the revamped drama pilot. Hudson will play Teddy McDonald, "a CIA operative banished to the Los Angeles office after a tragic misstep in the past"; with Lewis as Louise Saint, "Franklin's (Damson Idris) party girl aunt"; Cardenas as Alejandro Usteves, "a calculating rebel from the Nicaraguan Contras movement who is determined to keep his revolution alive by any means necessary"; and Costa as Pedro, "the cocky heir apparent of a Mexican crime family that sells marijuana throughout Los Angeles."
