By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

CASTAWAYS, THE (Paramount+, New!) - Sheridan Smith and Céline Buckens will topline the streamer's adaptation of Lucy Clarke's novel: "After they have a huge flight, Lori (Smith) boards a plane to Fiji, while Erin (Buckens) does not. The flight never arrives at its tropical destination and months later no wreckage has been located. Erin suddenly hears Lori's credit card has been used on a remote Fijian island and she later recognizes the pilot on CCTV. She boards a plane to Fiji to track down the truth. The show jumps between the perspectives of the two sisters, with Erin undertaking an investigation in the modern day and Lori struggling to survive after surviving a crash on a remote island. The truth about what happened to the plane and its passengers is slowly revealed, with someone willing to kill to keep it secret." Clapperboard Studios and Blackbox Multimedia are behind the project with Mike Benson, Giuliano Papadia, Chiara Cardoso and writer Ben Harris among the executive producers. Andy Tohill and Ryan Tohill are directors, with Myf Hopkins serving as the producer. (Deadline.com)
CHICAGO FIRE (NBC) - Jesse Spencer's Matt Casey will once again drop by the show's May 24 season finale, however Taylor Kinney's Kelly Severide remains on a leave of absence. (Deadline.com)
NCIS: HAWAI'I (CBS) - Henry Ian Cusick will guest on the show's two-part season finale as Supervisor Agent John Swift of the Office of Special Projects, who "enters the fray when Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey) gets into some seriously hot water, after the team leader travels out of the country on a very personal case from her past." (TVLine.com)
NIGHT COURT (NBC) - Filming on the show's second season is "expected to go dark for the time being" due to the WGA strikes. (Deadline.com)
SEX IN THE DARK (Peacock, New!) - The streamer has commissioned a pilot for a "radical new social experiment" which "centers on one single person who is blindfolded or left completely in darkness as they embark on "intimacy tests" to judge their connection, chemistry and attraction with a number of different suitors. After each round, one suitor will be eliminated. The show culminates in a final night in complete darkness, as the singleton bed-hops with the remaining suitors to see if smell, touch, physical connection and energy is all you need to fall in love." Amy Dallmeyer, Ben Wicks and Lucy Palmer are the executive producers for Expectation. (Deadline.com)
SURFACE (Apple TV+) - Freida Pinto has signed onto the show's second season as Grace, "Quinn's (Phil Dunster) fiancé. Quinn is the troubled scion of the infamous Huntley family. As the soon-to-be newest member of the Huntley family, Grace is said to be "conflicted about what she's really signing up for, and forms a special bond with Sophie."" (Variety.com)
