WEEK No. 2:
For the second consecutive week, ABC qualified as the No. 1 network during primetime (w/o 10/1/07) among Adults 18-49 (3.9/11 tied w/NBC). ABC once again moved ahead of NBC in actual millions of Adults 18-49 (4.71 million vs. 4.66 million). ABC took a solid second place during the week to CBS in Total Viewers (10.8 million) and ranked No. 1 with Adults 25-54 (4.2/11 tied w/CBS). ABC was the dominant No. 1 TV network across all key women demographics, holding wide advantages over its closest competitors: W18-34 +34% (3.9/11 vs. 2.9/9 - NBC), W18-49 +30% (4.8/13 vs. 3.7/10 - CBS) and W25-54 +19% (5.6/14 vs. 4.7/12).
Rankings: For the second week in a row, ABC aired 8 of the Top 20 TV shows with Adults 18-49 (more than any other net), including the new season's No. 1 show with "Grey's Anatomy": "Grey's Anatomy" No. 1, "Desperate Housewives" No. 4, "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 7, "Private Practice" No. 12, while "Pushing Daisies," "Brothers & Sisters," "Dancing with the Stars Results-TU" all tied at No. 16 and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" No. 19. The Net placed 3 of the Top 5 most-watched TV shows for the week: "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 2, "Grey's Anatomy" No. 3 and "Desperate Housewives" No. 5. ABC claimed the Top 2 freshman series during the week in Total Viewers ("Pushing Daisies" No. 1 and "Private Practice" No. 2) and Adults 18-49 ("Private Practice" No. 1 and "Pushing Daisies" No. 2). For the second week in a row, ABC garnered 6 of the Top 10 shows of the week in each of the key women demographics (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year to year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 9% during the same point in 2006 up to 20% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
