WEEK No. 3:

For the third week in a row, ABC ranked as the No. 1 network during primetime (w/o 10/8/07) among Adults 18-49 (3.6/10 tied w/CBS, which benefited greatly from a high-rated NFL overrun in its averages). ABC moved ahead of CBS in actual millions of Adults 18-49 (4.77 million vs. 4.69 million). Please note: CBS' weekly Adult 18-49 average was inflated by approximately four-tenths of a rating point from Sunday's high-rated NFL overrun into prime (Cowboys-Patriots). NBC (3.0/8) and Fox (2.9/8) finished a distant third and fourth for the week in the key sales demo, respectively. ABC also won the week in Adults 18-34, pacing 7% ahead of its closest competitor (2.9/9 vs. 2.7/8 Fox). The Network dominated the week across all key women demographics, maintaining strong advantages over its closest competitors: W18-34 +50% (3.9/12 vs. 2.6/8 CBS and Fox tied), W18-49 +29% (4.9/13 vs. 3.8/10 - CBS) and W25-54 +14% (5.6/14 vs. 4.9/12).

Based on the Live + 7 Day Ratings issued by Nielsen on Monday 10/15/07, ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" was TV's most-played-back show during premiere week '07-08. "Grey's Anatomy" stood as the biggest actual gainer from total DVR contribution during premiere week, receiving an additional 3.89 million viewers via "time-shifted" viewing. In fact ABC series represented 6 of the Top 20 largest playback draws for the opening week of the season in total actual DVR contribution: "Grey's Anatomy" No. 1 (+3.89 million), "Desperate Housewives" No. 6 (+2.38 million), "Private Practice" No. 9 (+1.97 million), "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 13 (+1.65 million), "Ugly Betty" No. 16 (+1.59 million) and "Brothers & Sisters" No. 17 (+1.57 million).

Rankings: ABC was home to 5 of the week's Top 10 TV series among Adults 18-49 (more than any other net), including the Top 2 series with "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives": "Grey's Anatomy" No. 1, "Desperate Housewives" No. 2, "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 6, "Private Practice" No. 7 and "Brothers & Sisters" No. 9. The Net claimed 3 of the Top 4 most-watched TV series during the week: "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 2, "Grey's Anatomy" No. 3 and "Desperate Housewives" No. 4. ABC's "Private Practice" was once again TV's No. 1 freshman series for the week in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year to year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 9% during the same point in 2006 up to 20% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

With the Net's lineup of "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Bachelor," ABC ranked as Monday's No. 1 TV network in Total Viewers (14.6 million vs. 11.5 million) for the third consecutive week, beating its nearest competition (CBS) by 3.1 million viewers.
