In its time period, ABC's "Once Upon a Time" (3.8/10) defeated Fox's NFL-driven animated comedy premieres ("The Simpsons"/"Bob's Burgers" = 3.1/8) by 23% and CBS' season premiere of "The Amazing Race" by 52% (2.5/6). "Revenge" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Leading its entertainment competition in its new Sunday 9 o'clock time slot among Adults 18-49, ABC's sophomore season premiere of "Revenge" (3.2/7) topped Fox's animated comedy openers ("Family Guy"/"American Dad" = 2.9/7) by 10% and impressively beat out the season opener of CBS' time-period established "The Good Wife" by 78% (1.8/4).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 46% currently, from 42% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
