"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Despite being preempted the prior Sunday for the "AMAs," ABC's "Once Upon a Time" surged by double digits from its most recent telecast two weeks ago in Adults 18-49 (+11%). Shooting up from its lead-in at 8:00 p.m. (+88%) against sports-driven competition on Fox and NBC, ABC's "Once Upon a Time" stood as the top-rated non-sports show in its hour in Adults 18-49 (3.0/7), beating out Fox's NFL-fueled animated comedies by 11% ("The Simpsons"/"Bob's Burgers" = 2.7/6) and CBS' "The Amazing Race XXI" by 20% (2.5/6). In addition, the ABC drama finished No. 1 straight out in its time period with key Women (W18-34/W18-49).

· ABC's "Once Upon a Time" sees big increases via time-shifted playback, spiking over its preliminary Live + Same Day numbers by 3.0 million viewers and by 1.4 Adult 18-49 rating points (+41%) in the final L+7 Day ratings.

During the 9:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Revenge" outdelivered CBS' competing drama "The Good Wife" for the 8th straight telecast this season, leading by 29% in Adults 18-49 (2.2/5 vs. 1.7/4). · On average, "Revenge" is growing from the same point in its freshman season among both Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 46% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
