ABC's "The Taste" Is Up/"The Bachelor" Wins from 9-11pm

ABC ran a competitive second on Tuesday in Adults 18-49 to CBS' original drama lineup, beating Fox's 2-hour comedy block by 21% and NBC with the season premiere of Smash by 92%. The Net ranked #1 on the night in Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49) The Net posted its strongest Tuesday since November 27, 2012, its 2nd-best performance on the night this season.

Building week to week in viewers (+10%) and young adults (+13%), ABC's The Taste outdelivered Fox's comedies by 13% (Raising Hope/Raising Hope) and NBC's Betty White special by 20% from 8-9pm in Adults 18-49.

From 9-11pm, the second part of a 2-night The Bachelor grew to win its time period with Adults 18-49, beating CBS dramas by 13% (NCIS: LA/Vegas) and more than doubling NBC's 2-hour second season opener of Smash (+136%). Up over Monday's telecast by 8% in Adults 18-49, The Bachelor achieved a new season high. The ABC unscripted series was Tuesday's #1 TV show with Women 18-34. Excluding only Dancing premieres and finales, The Bachelor delivered ABC's top entertainment Adult 18-49 rating in the time period since May 17, 2011.

ABC (2.3/6) ran a competitive second on Tuesday in Adults 18-49 to CBS' original drama lineup, beating Fox's 2-hour comedy block by 21% (1.9/5) and NBC with the season premiere of Smash by 92% (1.2/3). The Net ranked No. 1 on the night in Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49).

· The Net posted its strongest Tuesday since November 27, 2012, marking its 2nd-best performance on the night this season with entertainment programming.

From 9:00-11:00 p.m., the second part of a 2-night "The Bachelor" grew to win its time period with Adults 18-49 (2.6/7), beating CBS dramas by 13% ("NCIS: LA"/"Vegas" = 2.3/6) and more than doubling NBC's 2-hour second season opener of "Smash" (+136% - 1.1/3). Up over Monday's telecast by 8% in Adults 18-49, "The Bachelor" achieved a new season high. The ABC unscripted series was Tuesday's No. 1 TV show with Women 18-34.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 47% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
