Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: ABC, CBS & FOX Continue Tight Demo Race

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (10/9/13):

CBS (9.713 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #T1) was the most-watched network on Wednesday with its mix of "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" (9.464 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.4, #4), "Criminal Minds" (10.898 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.6, #2) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (8.777 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.9, #8).

ABC (7.229 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.3, #T1) however split the demo crown with the Eye thanks to its lineup of "The Middle" (8.117 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.2, #6), "Back in the Game" (6.438 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T9), "Modern Family" (10.432 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 3.8, #1), "Super Fun Night" (6.666 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 2.5, #3) and "Nashville" (5.861 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T9).

Next up was FOX (7.141 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.2, #3) with its equally competitive combination of "The X Factor" (6.617 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 2.3, #5) and a second hour of "The X Factor" (7.666 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 2.1, #7).

Meanwhile, NBC (5.614 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4) served up originals from "Revolution" (5.372 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.5, #12), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.241 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.6, #11) and "Ironside" (5.228 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.1, #13).

And finally, the return of "Arrow" (2.682 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.9, #14) and the premiere of "The Tomorrow People" (2.336 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.8, #15) on The CW (2.508 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.9, #5) closed out the night. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Arrow" delivered a 0.8 rating while "Tomorrow" posted a 0.5 rating.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 0.7/4; "Late Show," 0.5/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.2/6.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.8/6 in metered-market households and a 0.8/5 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.4/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.3/5). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/4 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/4 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (10/10/12):

FOX (9.36 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 3.4, #1) was still the network to beat on Wednesday with a new "The X Factor" (9.19 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 3.2, #4) followed by a second hour of "The X Factor" (9.52 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 3.6, #3).

ABC (9.38 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 3.2, #2) then was a competitive second place with its mix of "The Middle" (7.81 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 2.4, #9), "The Neighbors" (6.27 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T10), "Modern Family" (12.03 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 4.7, #2), a second "Modern Family" (12.23 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 4.9, #1) plus the premiere of "Nashville" (8.98 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 2.8, #6).

Next up was CBS (10.50 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.8, #3) with fresh installments of "Survivor: Philippines" (9.58 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.6, #T7), "Criminal Minds" (11.35 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 3.0, #5) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (10.58 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.6, #T7).

Meanwhile, NBC (5.55 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.6, #4) offered up new episodes of "Animal Practice" (3.88 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 1.1, #15), "Guys With Kids" (4.20 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.4, #13), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.18 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.8, #12) and the debut of "Chicago Fire" (6.44 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T10).

And finally, the premiere of "Arrow" (4.02 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 1.3, #14) and a new "Supernatural" (2.59 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 1.0, #16) closed out the night over on The CW (3.30 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.2, #5).
