ABC Scores its Biggest Total Viewer Count in Late-Night since Mid-December
ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Attracts its Largest Audience in 5 Weeks
With a 5-Week High in Viewers, "Nightline" is Up Week to Week in All Key Demos
ABC Late-Night (Monday - Friday)
With its late-night lineup of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" at 11:35 p.m. and "Nightline" at 12:35 a.m. during the week of January 20, 2014, ABC posted week-to-week gains of 6% in Total Viewers (2.270 million vs. 2.146 million) and 14% in Adults 18-49 (778,000 vs. 681,000) to attract in largest overall audience in late-night since mid-December - since the week of 12/16/13.
· ABC was the week's No. 2 network in late-night for the 2nd week in a row in Total Viewers and for the 3rd straight week in Adults 18-49, beating CBS by 5% (2.270 million vs. 2.152 million) and 34% (778,000 vs. 581,000), respectively.
"Jimmy Kimmel Live" (M-F 11:35 p.m.)
During the week of January 20, 2014, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" grew over the prior week by 4% in Total Viewers (2.547 million vs. 2.455 million) and by 13% in Adults 18-49 (889,000 vs. 790,000) to draw its biggest overall audience in 5 weeks - since the week of 12/16/13.
· ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" stood as the week's No. 2 talk show in late-night in Adults 18-49 (889,000), behind only NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
· "JKL" outperformed CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman" in Adults 18-49 (+25% - 889,000 vs. 712,000) for the 17th time in 18 weeks this season and with its largest margin of victory in 9 weeks (since w/o 11/18/13). In fact, despite airing a repeat telecast on Friday, "JKL" topped a week of all original episodes of "Letterman" for the 3rd week in a row among young adults. Friday's repeat telecast of "JKL" outperformed an original telecast of "Letterman" by 39% in Adults 18-49 (942,000 vs. 680,000).
"Nightline" (M-F 12:35 a.m.)
ABC News' "Nightline" drew 1.584 million Total Viewers, 695,000 Adults 25-54 and 506,000 Adults 18-49 for the week of January 20, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" beat CBS' "The Late Late Show" during the week in Total Viewers (+159,000), Adults 25-54 (+81,000) and Adults 18-49 (+51,000). "Nightline" has led the CBS program in all 18 weeks of the season in Total Viewers and in 17 of 18 weeks in both key Adult demos.
"Nightline" was up over the previous week across all target demos: Total Viewers (+4%), Adults 25-54 (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%) - 1.522 million, 624,000 and 462,000, respectively, on w/o 1/13/14. "Nightline" hit a 5-week high in Total Viewers - since w/o 12/16/13. In addition, "Nightline" grew the most from the prior week in all 3 measures compared to CBS' "The Late Late Show" (+3%/+7%/flat) and NBC's "Late Night" (+3%/-1%/-1%).
