FORTUNE (Bravo, New!) - "Smash" creator Theresa Rebeck has sold a potential drama to the cable channel about "a prominent New York family and the battle over an inheritance after the patriarch dies suddenly under mysterious circumstances." The project, set up at Warner Horizon Television, is inspired by Charles Dickens' 19th century classic "Bleak House." John Wells and Andrew Stearn are also on board to executive produce via the former's studio-based banner. (Deadline.com)
THE STRAIN (FX/FX Productions; W: Chuck Hogan & Guillermo del Toro; D: Guillermo del Toro) - Robert Maillet and Francis Capra are the latest actors bound for the drama pilot, about the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City which is tasked with investigating a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. The former play the world-conquering vampire The Master in the project, with Capra as Crispin, "a mid-30s scammer who is always on the lookout for the easy and high-paying way out." The project also features Corey Stoll, Jack Kesy, John Hurt, Jonathan Hyde, Kevin Durand, Lauren Lee Smith, Mia Maestro, Miguel Gomez, Richard Sammel and Sean Astin. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED RIDDLE & SALAHUDDIN PROJECT (HBO; W: Bashir Salahuddin & Diallo Riddle; D: Jamie Babbit) - Jamie Babbit ("Go On") has been tapped to helm the comedy pilot, about a pair of 30-year-old reporters (Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle) trying to make it big in Atlanta. She'll work from a script by said duo with Lorne Michaels of Broadway Video Television and showrunner Dave Flebotte also serving as executive producers. Production is set to begin this September in Atlanta. (THR.com)
