"CSI" Is November's #1 Scripted Series
"Criminal Minds" Achieves Series High Ratings in All Key Measures While "The Amazing Race 10," "CSI," "Shark," "CSI: Miami," "NCIS" and "60 Minutes" All Hit Season High Ratings Opposite Competitive Sweeps Programming
With just two nights remaining, CBS will win its sixth consecutive November sweep in viewers and fourth consecutive in adults 25-54, based on Nielsen Live Plus same-day ratings through Monday, Nov. 27's fast national ratings. CBS is also on track to finish second in adults 18-49.
CBS's November victory was fueled nearly exclusively by the Network's hit series as 85 of 88 prime hours (97%) of the month's programming was comprised of regularly scheduled programs -- the most by a Network in a major sweep since at least 1993. CBS's only non-regularly scheduled programs were Sunday's "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation of CANDLES ON BAY STREET and one hour of election night coverage.
In November, CBS also had more programs in the top 30 among viewers (13), adults 18-49 (9) and adults 25-54 (13) than any other network.
CSI emerged as November's #1 scripted series with an average of 22.19 million viewers, finishing ahead of "Desperate Housewives" (22.18m) and time period rival "Grey's Anatomy" (21.29m), highlighted by CSI's Nov. 16 performance when it out-delivered the ABC series by more than three million viewers and narrowed the gap among adults 18-49 to just -0.7 of a rating point, the closest the two series have been all season.
In a month of extremely competitive sweeps programming, CRIMINAL MINDS achieved series high ratings in all key measures (beating the highly promoted fall finale of "Lost"), while THE AMAZING RACE 10, CSI, SHARK, CSI: MIAMI, NCIS and 60 MINUTES all hit season high ratings in viewers and/or key demographics. Additionally, SURVIVOR: COOK ISLANDS topped time period rival "Ugly Betty" in viewers and key demographics in all four head-to-head match-ups during November.
CBS's sophomore series also played a part in the Network's November victory. In addition to CRIMINAL MINDS, the Network also received time period winning performances from second year series GHOST WHISPERER and CLOSE TO HOME and solid ratings from HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE, both airing in very competitive Monday time periods.
Final November sweep averages will be available on Thursday.
