Sunday Primetime (7:00-11:00 p.m.)

Despite facing CBS' NCAA Basketball Tournament overrun into the opening hour of prime, ABC won its sixth consecutive Sunday night among Adults 18-49 and grew 13% week to week in the key young adult sales demo (3.5/9 vs. 3.1/9). After CBS' NCAA Basketball run-over during the 7 o'clock hour, ABC won all 6 half-hours from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49.

ABC aired the Top 2 TV shows on Sunday in Adults 18-49, with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "Oprah's Big Give." ABC's "Home Edition" and "Oprah's Big Give" also represented Sunday's most-watched entertainment shows overall.

ABC's repeat airing of "America's Funniest Home Videos" held second to CBS' NCAA Basketball tournament overrun during the 7 o'clock hour in Total Viewers (8.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.4/7).

"Funniest Home Videos" logged the series' highest repeat numbers in 1 year since 4/1/07.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Sunday's No. 1 TV program, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" jumped up to a definitive No. 1 in the 8 o'clock hour, outperforming its nearest competitors by 3.7 million viewers (12.8 million vs. 9.1 million - CBS) and by 45% in Adults 18-49 (4.5/11 vs. 3.1/8 - Fox).

In viewers and young adults, "Home Edition" posted its top numbers in 4 weeks since 3/2/08.

"Oprah's Big Give" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

For the fifth consecutive week, ABC's "Oprah's Big Give" won its 9 o'clock time period in viewers and young adults. "Here Come the Newlyweds" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Here Come the Newlyweds" won its time slot for the fifth straight week in Adults 18-49 (3.1/8), beating second-place CBS' "Dexter" by 41% (2.2/6) and third-place NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" by 55% (2.0/5). In addition, the new ABC series also led the hour in Adults 18-34 (2.7/8) and Adults 25-54 (3.6/9).

Compared to the prior week, "Here Come the Newlyweds" gained 13% in Total Viewers (7.6 million vs. 6.7 million) and 11% in Adults 18-49 (3.1/8 vs. 2.8/8).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from over 14% at the same point in 2006, up to more than 23% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
