WEEK No. 30:

ABC finished second to Fox during the week of April 14, 2008, across each of the key women demographics: Women 18-34 (2.2/6), Women 18-49 (3.0/8) and Women 25-54 (3.7/9).

Rankings: "Desperate Housewives" stood as the No. 1 scripted show of the week in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. Overall, ABC owned 5 of the week's Top 20 TV shows in Adults 18-49: "Desperate Housewives" No. 3, "Dancing with the Stars" No. 9, "Dancing w/Stars Results" No. 14, "Brothers & Sisters" No. 16 and "Oprah's Big Give" No. 18. Additionally the Network placed 3 of the Top 5 most-watched television programs for the week, including "Dancing with the Stars" No. 3, "Desperate Housewives" No. 4 and "Dancing w/Stars Results" No. 5.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from over 15% at the same point in 2006, up to nearly 24% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

For the third time in four weeks, ABC stood as Monday's most-watched TV network, outdrawing second-place CBS during prime by 2.3 million viewers (12.5 million vs. 10.2 million). The Net also delivered the No. 1 position on the evening in Adults 18-34 (2.6/7) and took a solid second in Adults 18-49 (3.4/9). For the fifth Monday in a row, ABC qualified as the No. 1 network across each of the key women demographics: W18-34 (3.9/10), W18-49 (5.1/12) and W25-54 (6.4/14).

"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-9:32 p.m.)

Winning its time period in Total Viewers (17.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.1/11), ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" stood as Monday's most-watched show for the fifth straight week topping the No. 2 show on the evening by 3.3 million viewers (CBS' "Two and a Half Men" = 13.9 million).

"Samantha Who?" (9:32-10:02 p.m.)

ABC's "Samantha Who?" won its time period among Women 18-34 (3.6/9) and Women 25-54 (5.6/12).

"The Bachelor: London Calling" (10:02-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "The Bachelor" was the top-rated broadcast in its hour among Adults 18-34 (2.4/7) and Women 18-34 (3.8/10), with its highest ratings on both counts since its season premiere 4 weeks ago (3/17/08).

Despite decided lead-in advantages for Fox and NBC coming into the time hour, ABC's "DWTS Results" outdrew Fox's "Idol"-boosted "Hell's Kitchen" by 4.8 million viewers (10.6 million) and the second hour of NBC's 2-hour season finale for "Biggest Loser" by 2.3 million (13.1 million). Actress, producer and entrepreneur Priscilla Presley was the fifth celebrity dancer to be eliminated from the contest this season.

For the fourth week in a row the ABC dance competition stood as Tuesday's No. 2 TV show, trailing only Fox's "American Idol."

Opposite the return of NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" to original in the time period, ABC's "Boston Legal" took second place in the 10 o'clock hour, defeating CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" by 3.6 million viewers (8.8 million vs. 5.2 million) and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 1.5/4).

Wednesday

"ABC News Democratic Presidential Candidate Debate" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)

Wednesday night's "Democratic Presidential Candidate Debate" on ABC, hosted by ABC News, the National Constitution Center, and WPVI-TV, stood as the most-watched debate of the 2008 presidential cycle (10.7 million). With the debate, ABC earned second place to an "Idol"-boosted Fox from 8:00-10:00 p.m. among Total Viewers. In fact prior to the start of "American Idol," ABC won the 8 o'clock hour in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. The previous high for this election cycle was ABC's January 5th "Democratic Debate," which Charles Gibson moderated in Manchester, New Hampshire, just days before the state's first-in-the-nation primary.

Based on Household Metered Market ratings for Wednesday night (program vs. program), ABC News' "Democratic Debate" defeated Fox's "American Idol" in 4 markets, including Philadelphia (18.1/26 vs. 12.4/17), Orlando (13.6/20 vs. 13.3/19), San Antonio (6.9/11 vs. 4.8/7) and Albuquerque (7.7/13 vs. 7.3/12).
