Nightline Bests "Tonight Show" in Total Viewers for 6th Week in a Row
ABC spins the late-night numbers for the week of July 27-July 31.

Ratings Report for ABC News' "Nightline" For the Week of July 27, 2009

"NIGHTLINE" BESTS "TONIGHT SHOW" IN TOTAL VIEWERS FOR 6th WEEK IN A ROW

"NIGHTLINE" GROWS +15% AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS YEAR TO YEAR WHILE "TONIGHT SHOW" DECLINES -42%

For the sixth consecutive week ABC News' "Nightline" outperformed NBC's "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" among Total Viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research for the week of July 27, 2009. This marks the first time since 1995 "Nightline" has outperformed "Tonight" six weeks in a row in Total Viewers. "Additionally, Nightline" placed second for the week among Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49, outperforming CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman."

"Nightline" continues to experience growth season to date, quarter to date, week to week and year to year. For the 30th consecutive week, "Nightline" grew among Total Viewers. The program grew +15% versus the same week last year, while "Tonight" in comparison declined -42%. "Nightline" also increased 13% among Adults 25-54 and 6% among Total Viewers week to week.

Quarter to date, "Nightline" is in first place among Total Viewers with 3.60 million, a growth of +15% vs. 2008 quarter to date, while "Tonight" has declined -40% in Total Viewers, -21% among A25-54 and -9% among A18-49.

Season to date, "Nightline" is solidly in second place with 3.79 million Total Viewers and 1.64 million Adults 25-54. It is up +13% in Total Viewers, +3% in A 25-54 and +5% in A18-49.

"Nightline" continues to cut the A25-54 and A18-49 gaps with NBC. "Nightline" shrank the A25-54 gap with "Tonight" by 79% and the A18-49 gap by 52% compared to the same week last year.

ABC News' "Nightline" is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Martin Bashir. John Donvan and Vicki Mabrey are correspondents. James Goldston is the executive producer. The program airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network.
