UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - December 3, 2010 - NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" has delivered ratings victories for the November sweep, winning its time period over all cable and broadcast entertainment competition in viewers 18-49 and total viewers.
Versus November 2009, "Tonight" moved ahead of CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" in 18-49 viewers and total viewers after "Late Show" led those categories one year ago. "Tonight" matched its year-ago rating in adults 18-49 and is up 64 percent in total viewers.
At 12:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" also delivered a bigger audience in the slot in adults 18-49 than any cable or broadcast entertainment competition in the hour.
Versus November 2009, Jimmy Fallon moved past CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" in viewers 18-49 and cut "Late Late Show's" lead in total viewers from the year-ago 45 percent down to 1 percent.
The November sweep concluded during the week of November 22-26, during which "Tonight" reported its biggest adult 18-49 audience in 11 weeks and its biggest overall viewership in eight months. Jimmy Fallon matched his biggest 18-49 audience in nine weeks and delivered his biggest overall audience in 11 weeks. And at 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call With Carson Daly" generated its top weeklong 18-49 and total-viewer audience figures in 11 weeks. Note that Thursday and Friday results are excluded from last week's averages due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
For the November sweep, "Tonight" led "Late Show" by 8 percent in adult 18-49 viewers (1.282 million vs. 1.183 million), reversing the order of one year ago, when "Late Show" finished November with a 1 percent lead (1.310 million vs. 1.296 million). In total viewers, "Tonight" led "Late Show" for the month by a 7 percent margin (3.911 million vs. 3.660 million), reversing the order of one year ago, when "Late Show" led by a 72 percent advantage (4.117 million vs. 2.392 million).
For the sweep at 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon topped "Late Late Show" by a 17 percent margin in adult 18-49 viewers (800,000 vs. 681,000), after "Late Late Show" won by 4 percent one year ago (785,000 vs. 752,000). In total viewers, Jimmy cut the year-ago "Late Late Show" lead down to 1 percent (1.774 million vs. 1.759 million) from its year-ago 45 percent (1.921 million vs. 1.321 million).
For the sweep, "Tonight" matched its year ago 18-49 rating (1.0) and finished within 1 percent of its year-ago 18-49 viewership (1.282 million vs. 1.296 million), while "Late Show" was down 10 percent (1.183 million vs. 1.310 million). At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon matched his year-ago 0.6 rating in adults 18-49 and was up 6 percent in 18-49 viewers (800,000 vs. 752,000), while "Late Late Show" was down 13 percent (681,000 vs. 785,000).
In total viewers, "Tonight" is up 64 percent versus November 2009 (3.911 million vs. 2.392 million), while "Late Show" is down 11 percent (3.660 million vs. 4.117 million). At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon is up 33 percent versus his year-ago pace in total viewers (1.759 million vs. 1.321 million), while "Late Late Show" is down 8 percent (1.774 million vs. 1.921 million).
For the sweep at 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call with Carson Daly" jumped 21 percent versus last year in 18-49 viewers (500,000 vs. 413,000) and 32 percent in total viewers (1.005 million vs. 762,000).
For the week of November 22-26, Jay's 1.422 million adult 18-49 viewers is "Tonight's" biggest audience in that key demo since the week of September 6-10 and his 4.198 million viewers overall is a high since March 22-26. Jimmy Fallon's 827,000 adult 18-49 viewers equals his high since September 20-24 and his 1.854 million viewers overall is "Late Night's" best since the week of September 6-10. At 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call" averaged 570,000 adults 18-49 and 1.099 million viewers overall, both highs for the show since September 6-10.
