CBS NEWS' "48 HOURS MYSTERY" WINS SATURDAY NIGHT WITH ITS LARGEST AUDIENCE SINCE 2009
CBS News' 48 HOURS MYSTERY (10:00-11:00 PM) was the night's #1 program in households (4.9/09), viewers (7.61m), adults 25-54 (2.5/07) and adults 18-49 (1.7/06) on Saturday, Jan. 29 according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. The broadcast posted its best households delivery since April 18, 2009; best viewer performance since March 7, 2009; and its best delivery in adults 25-54 since March 28, 2009. Compared to the same night last year, 48 HOURS MYSTERY was up +2% in households and +25% in adults 25-54.
The broadcast, entitled "Every Picture Tells a Story," featured Richard Schlesinger's report on the murder of Cathy Mendenhall McNaughton, who was discovered in her Georgia home in a pool of blood by her husband, Alec McNaughton. Cathy had been stabbed more than 30 times. As the victim's husband, there was reason to suspect Alec of murdering Cathy, but with a solid alibi and no physical evidence, investigators considered another possible suspect: Cathy's ex-husband, Gary Mendenhall. Ultimately, secret pictures of Cathy would help reveal the truth about her killer.
This broadcast is produced by Paul LaRosa and Peter Henderson. Al Briganti is the executive editor. Susan Zirinsky is the executive producer.
