Wednesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

With its all-repeat lineup ("The Middle"/"Suburgatory"/"Modern Family"/"Happy Endings"/"Revenge") facing Fox's all-original lineup ("The X Factor" Wednesday finale/"I Hate My Teenage Daughter") and a mix of original and repeat programming on the other nets, ABC (1.4/4) beat out CBS by 8% (1.3/4) and NBC by 17% (1.2/4) on Wednesday night among Adults 18-49. ABC's repeat "Modern Family" finished as Wednesday's No. 1 scripted TV show among Adults 18-49, notably topping Fox's "The X Factor"-fueled "I Hate My Teenage Daughter."

· ABC was up over the same Wednesday last year by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 on 12/22/10).

· During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's replays of "The Middle" and "Suburgatory" outperformed CBS' original holiday special ("A Home for the Holidays with Martina McBride") by wide margins with Total Viewers (+21% - 5.1 million vs. 4.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+88% - 1.5/5 vs. 0.8/2).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 43% currently, from 38% at the same point in 2010. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
