NBA Finals on ABC: Game 5 Generates Strong 11.4 Overnight Rating
The Finals Expected to Win the Night for 35th Consecutive Time; 23rd Straight NBA Finals Telecast with Double-Digit Overnight Rating
NBA Finals Game 5 on ABC - the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat to take a 3-2 series lead - generated a strong 11.4 overnight rating, according to Nielsen. Game 5 is expected to mark the 35th consecutive time an NBA Finals telecast has won the night for all of television and is the 23rd straight time it has delivered double-digit overnight ratings.
The game peaked at a 13.9 rating between 10:30-10:45 p.m. ET. In addition, The Finals on ABC continues to deliver strong local market ratings. Game 5 scored a 37.6 metered market rating in San Antonio and a 28.8 in Miami.
The 2013 NBA Finals will continue with Game 6 on Tuesday, June 18, at 9 p.m. on ABC, ESPN Radio, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3 and WatchESPN. The telecast will be preceded by Kia NBA Countdown at 8:30 p.m. on ABC and ESPN3.
Digital growth continues
Game 5 of The Finals on ABC live through special simulcasts on ESPN3 saw over 12 million total minutes and an average minute audience of 70,000 across computers, smartphones, tablets and Xbox (source: Adobe SiteCatalyst). Additionally, NBA content across ESPN digital platforms generated over 67 million total minutes, more than half of which were consumed on mobile properties. NBA content on ESPN.com also logged an average minute audience of 15,000 (up 30 percent compared to Game 5 in 2012).
