Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: FOX Tops Viewers, Demos with "American Idol"

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (4/23/14):

FOX (8.868 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.1, #1) was the top draw on Wednesday with a new two-hour "American Idol" (8.868 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.1, #3).

ABC (5.639 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2) then claimed the silver with originals from "The Middle" (6.846 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.8, #4), "Suburgatory" (5.247 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.6, #5), "Modern Family" (9.247 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 3.4, #1), "Mixology" (4.150 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.5, #6) and the special "Nashville: On the Record" (4.170 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10).

Next up was CBS (7.557 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.5, #3) with a new "Survivor: Cagayan" (9.304 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.2, #2) alongside repeats of "Criminal Minds" (6.377 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T7) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (6.989 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T7).

Meanwhile, NBC (4.141 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #4) served up repeats of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (4.360 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10), another "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (4.406 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.1, #9) and "Chicago PD" (3.657 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.9, #12).

And finally, new episodes of "Arrow" (2.185 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.7, #13) and "The 100" (1.941 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.6, #14) on The CW (2.063 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.6, #5) closed out the night. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Arrow" delivered a 0.5 rating while "100" posted a 0.4 rating.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.0/5; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.1/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.0/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

FOX (12.184 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.2, #1) was the network to beat on Wednesday thanks to another two-hour "American Idol" (12.184 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.2, #1).

CBS (7.791 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.9, #2) then took home the silver with a new "Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs. Favorites" (9.829 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.7, #2) followed by repeats of "Criminal Minds" (5.950 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T5) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (7.595 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T5).

Next up was NBC (5.607 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #3) with fresh installments of "Dateline NBC" (5.534 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.3, #9) and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (7.220 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T3) plus a repeat of "Chicago Fire" (4.068 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T11).

Meanwhile, ABC (4.213 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #4) offered up repeats of "The Middle" (4.731 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.2, #10), "Modern Family" (4.370 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.4, #8), another "Modern Family" (5.303 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T3), a new "How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)" (4.805 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T5) and a repeat "Nashville" (3.035 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.8, #14).
