ABC's "Bachelor in Paradise" Debut Wins Its 2-Hour Slot in Total Viewers

Bachelor in Paradise (8-10pm - 5.0 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49): From 8-10pm, Bachelor in Paradise debuted with 5.0 million viewers on average, making ABC the most-watched TV network in the 2-hour time period. The new show built from its first hour to its second hour in Total Viewers (+6% - 4.9 million to 5.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8% - 1.3/5 vs. 1.4/4). Among Adults 18-49 in its time slot, the freshman ABC unscripted series matched NBC's Running Wild with Bear Grylls from 8-9pm and also tied Fox's Hotel Hell from 9-10pm.

Mistresses (10-11pm - 3.4 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49): During the 10pm hour, ABC's Mistresses held steady with its most recent telecast two weeks ago in Adults 18-49, pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point (0.9/3 vs. 1.0/3).

The new show built from its first hour to its second hour in Total Viewers (+6% - 4.9 million to 5.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8% - 1.3/5 vs. 1.4/4). A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 49% currently, from 48% at the same point in 2013. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
