Live + 7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Secrets and Lies" and "Fresh Off the Boat" Post Their Biggest Playback Gains Yet

L+7 Ratings: ABC's Secrets and Lies and FOTB Post Their Biggest Playback Gains Yet

ABC had 2 of the week's Top 4 biggest broadcast gainers in TV playback among Adults 18-49, with Grey's Anatomy and Scandal each picking up +1.5 rating points to tie at #4.

Matching its biggest playback increase of the season (+71%), ABC's Grey's Anatomy grew to a 3.6 to virtually tie its week-ago L+7 rating (3.7) after finishing 3-tenths of a rating point behind in L+SD.

ABC's Secrets and Lies grew to a 2.4 rating among Adults 18-49 for its third episode, up 9% week to week (vs. a 2.2) to equal its highest L+7 number yet. In addition, Secrets and Lies posted its biggest playback increase to date, growing by 1 full rating point (or +71%) over its L+SD Adult 18-49 rating. Also on Sunday, Once Upon a Time soared +1.1 rating points over its L+SD Adult 18-49 rating to deliver a 2.9 and come within 1-tenth of its week-ago L+7 rating. In L+SD, OUAT was off by 3-tenths of a rating point week to week in the young adult demo.

On Tuesday, ABC's Fresh Off the Boat delivered increasing L+7 growth for the 3rd consecutive week, hitting a series high in TV playback among Adults 18-49 (+44%).

Growing to a 2.6 rating in L+7, ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. moved ahead of CBS' NCIS: New Orleans (2.4 rating) in Tuesday's 9 o'clock hour to lead by 8% among Adults 18-49. In the L+SD ratings, S.H.I.E.L.D. was 1-tenth of a rating point behind the CBS drama among young adults.

Head to head in Thursday's 9pm hour, ABC's Scandal solidified its victory over NBC's The Blacklist in the final L+7 ratings, leading the NBC drama by 24% among Adults 18-49 (4.2 rating vs. 3.4 rating).

Season-to-Date TV Playback (9/22/14-3/15/15):

Based on L+7 ratings through 25 weeks of the 2014-15 season, ABC is #1 in Nielsen's non-sports Adult 18-49 averages (2.3 rating), leading CBS (+5% - 2.2), NBC (+10% - 2.1) and Fox (+21% - 1.9). ABC grows by +0.7 rating points (+44%) over its Live + Same Day Adult 18-49 rating (1.6 rating in L+SD to a 2.3 in L+7) in the non-sports averages, making the Net the biggest gainer in TV playback this season. Growing to a 2.3 L+7 rating among Adults 18-49 in the non-sports numbers, ABC is the only network up year to year (2.2 for 9/23/13-3/16/14), while CBS (-4%), NBC (-13%) and Fox (-10%) are each declining.

Based on TV playback data for the 2014-15 season, ABC claims 4 of the Top 10 biggest gainers among Adults 18-49 on the broadcast networks (the most for any network): Modern Family (+2.2 rating points) - #2, How To Get Away with Murder (+2.0) - #4 with Scandal (+1.5) and Grey's Anatomy (+1.5) tied for #7.

Among Adults 18-49 in the L+7 ratings, ABC has the Top 2 dramas on Thursday with HTGAWM (5.0 rating) and Scandal (4.7), the #1 show on Friday with Shark Tank (2.6) and the #1 broadcast series on Sunday with Once Upon a Time (3.6).

Several ABC's returning series are seeing bigger percentage gains among Adults 18-49 from L+SD to L+7 this year than last: The Bachelor (+25% vs. +24%), Castle (+69% vs. +60%), Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (+76% vs. +62%), Modern Family (+67% vs. +56%), Revenge (+82% vs. +53%) and Shark Tank (+37% vs. +30%).
