"48 HOURS: MOMMY DEAREST" IS SATURDAY'S #1 BROADCAST AT 10:00 PM IN KEY NEWS DEMO AND VIEWERS

"48 Hours" Posts Week-to-Week Gains in Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49 and Viewers

48 HOURS: "Mommy Dearest" was the #1 broadcast at 10:00 PM with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news, as well as viewers and adults 18-49, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for June 6.

48 HOURS (10:00-11:00 PM) (R) delivered 4.90 million viewers, a 1.1/04 in adults 25-54 and a 0.7/03 with adults 18-49. Compared to the previous week, 48 HOURS was up +38% in adults 25-54 (from 0.8/03), up +17% in adults 18-49 (from 0.6/02) and added +880,000 viewers (from 4.02m, +22%).

Saturday's encore broadcast featured Richard Schlesinger's report on the role socialite Linda Cooney played in the 1992 shooting death of her ex-husband, Palm Beach lawyer Jim Cooney, and the shooting of her son, Kevin, two decades later with the same gun.

In 1992, Cooney shot her ex-husband, while Kevin, then 10, peeked through a hole in his bedroom door. The case rocked Palm Beach when Linda went on trial for murder and was found not guilty, largely on the weight of Kevin's testimony, investigators say.

Cooney left Palm Beach with Kevin and his brother and landed in Las Vegas. Then in June 2011, she called 911 to report Kevin has been shot in the neck. Kevin Cooney, 30, who once saved his mother from jail, would again be at the heart of a trial against her.

Prosecutors maintained Linda Cooney was desperate to control her grown sons. Cooney's defense painted a different story: Kevin was mentally unstable, and on the morning of the shooting, he came after his mother and accidentally shot himself.
