Tuesday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Wins Battle of Repeats

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (12/22/15):

CBS (7.803 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #1) was the top draw on Tuesday with its repeat lineup of "NCIS" (10.792 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #1), "NCIS: New Orleans" (8.156 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #2) and "Limitless" (4.462 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6).

ABC (3.717 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.9, #2) then claimed the silver with second runs of "Fresh Off the Boat" (3.409 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4) and "The Muppets" (2.301 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.6, #11) plus the two-hour special "The Year: 2015" (4.148 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #3).

Next up was NBC (3.588 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.7, #3) and its trio of "Hollywood Game Night" (3.579 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4), "Chicago Med" (3.531 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6) and "Chicago Fire" (3.655 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.831 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.6, #4) offered up encores of "The Simpsons" (2.082 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6), "Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas" (2.032 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6) and "Taraji and Terrence's White Hot Holidays" (1.605 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.5, #12).

And finally, repeats of "The Flash" (1.411 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.4, #13) and "iZombie" (0.832 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #14) on The CW (1.121 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the night.

· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.4/6 with an encore telecast; "Late Show with Stephen Colbert," 1.7/4 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 2.1/5 with an encore.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.8/4 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.3/1 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.4/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.1/4 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (0.8/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/1 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (12/23/14):

ABC (5.205 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #1) was the demo champ on Tuesday with its holiday mix of "Shrek the Halls" (5.252 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T1), "Toy Story That Time Forgot" (4.658 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T1) and the two-hour special "The Year: 2014" (5.329 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T3).

CBS (8.949 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2) then was a close second place with its repeat lineup of "NCIS" (10.389 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T3), "NCIS: Los Angeles" (8.855 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T5) and "NCIS: New Orleans" (7.605 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T5).

Next up was NBC (3.423 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.7, #3) with the "One Direction: The TV Special" (3.131 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T7) followed by "Michael Buble's Christmas in New York" (3.501 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T7) and "Kelly Clarkson's Cautionary Christmas Music Tale" (3.637 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T7).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.321 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.5, #4) offered up its repeat combination of "New Girl" (1.604 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T10), "The Mindy Project" (1.385 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T10), a second "New Girl" (1.089 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T10) and a second "The Mindy Project" (1.205 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T10).

And finally, repeats of "The Flash" (1.438 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) and "Supernatural" (0.878 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) closed out the evening on The CW (1.158 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5). In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "The Flash" posted a 0.3 rating while "Supernatural" delivered a 0.2 rating.

·With guests Jerry Seinfeld, One Direction and musical guest Big Sean with The Roots, "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" delivered its second-highest Tuesday rating in metered-market households so far this season, trailing this fall only the prior week's rating on the night of "The Voice" finale.

·"Tonight" averaged a 3.2/8 in metered-market households, which tops all Tuesday results so far this season except the previous week's 3.5/9 on the night of the "Voice" finale, which was the top-rated "Tonight" on any night of the week since Monday, March 17 (3.7). Last week's Tuesday guests were Christoph Waltz and Nicki Minaj and the show featured an appearance by Justin Timberlake.

·In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 3.2/8; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.2/5 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 2.1/5 with an encore.

·In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.3/5; "Late Show," 0.5/2 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/3 with an encore.
