What We Watched the First Half of 2024

Today, we're sharing our latest Engagement Report, which shows what people watched on Netflix from January to June 2024. Here's what we found:

Our members are highly engaged.

Watchtime - or engagement - is our best indicator of member happiness. When people watch more, they stick around longer and recommend Netflix to others.

In the first half of 2024, people watched over 94 billion hours on Netflix - a reflection of how much our members love our stories and value our service.

Great stories can come from anywhere and be loved everywhere.

Four of our 10 biggest shows this year so far were from the UK (Fool Me Once 108M, Baby Reindeer 88M, The Gentlemen 76M and One Day 39M).

Non-English stories were also hugely popular, making up nearly a third of all viewing.

Titles from Spain (Society of the Snow 104M, Berlin 49M, The Asunta Case 31M and Raising Voices 25M) and Korea (Queen of Tears 29M, Parasyte: The Grey 25M and My Demon 18M) led the way.

France (Under Paris 85M), Italy (The Tearsmith 53M), Japan (City Hunter 16M) and India (Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar 15M) had notable breakouts.

Bridgerton is a huge and beloved franchise.

The Bridgerton universe brought in 189M views in the first half of 2024 with Season 3 alone garnering 92M views in less than two months.

When compared to the second half of 2023, views for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (24M) doubled and increased five times for Bridgerton Seasons 1 and 2.

Our audiences enjoy many different genres.

Action and adventure brought films including Damsel (144M) starring Millie Bobby Brown and Lift (129M) starring Kevin Hart, and series like Crooks (16M), Boy Swallows Universe (13M), Yu Yu Hakusho (8M) and the newest season of Sweet Tooth (16M).

Prestige series and films including Emmy(R) winning Ripley (9M) and The Crown (12M in its final season), Emmy nominated Griselda (69M), 3 Body Problem (52M) and Scoop (19M), alongside popular hits Leave the World Behind (41M) and Hit Man (31M) kept audiences entertained.

Romance of every stripe captivated viewers, from rom-coms like Mother of the Bride (78M), heartfelt dramas like Doctor Slump (14M), and tearjerkers like Heartstopper (5M across its two seasons).

Comedies delighted audiences, from The Roast of Tom Brady (22M) and Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer (17M) to Alpha Males (14M from two seasons) and Young Sheldon which brought 106M views across its six seasons.

Reality TV had returning favorites like the latest seasons of Love Is Blind (21M), Perfect Match (11M) and Is It Cake? (9M).

Animated films brought family movie night favorites like The Super Mario Bros. Movie (80M), Minions (73M) and The Boss Baby (64M).

And our most-watched documentaries served a variety of tastes, from American Nightmare (55M), The Greatest Night in Pop (25M) and Formula 1: Drive to Survive (12M) to America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (6M) and Emmy winning series Love on the Spectrum (11M).
