Live+7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Modern Family" Leapfrogs Over CBS' "Two and a Half Men" to Emerge as TV's #1 Scripted Show

Live+7 Day Ratings for the week of 10/3/11 (Week #3):

For the 3rd straight week of the new season, ABC's Modern Family registered as the biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, picking up an additional 4.82 million viewers and 2.4 rating points from its originally reported Live + Same Day numbers. In fact, Modern Family's 2.4 rating point for the week was the highest-ever for any single telecast of a TV series. In addition, ABC's Grey's Anatomy was the week's 2nd-biggest gainer in the key young adult sales demo (+1.7 rating points), topping the increase for CBS' Two and a Half Men (+1.6 rating points) for the first time this season. With Modern Family and Grey's Anatomy leading the pack, it was the 3rd week in a row for ABC to claim the Top 2 gainers in Adults 18-49.

· Based on Nielsen's final ratings, ABC's Modern Family emerged as TV's #1 scripted show for the week in Adults 18-49, building from a 5.7 rating in the first-reported Live + Same Day numbers to an 8.1 rating in the Live + 7 numbers. Initially in the Live + Same Day statistics, Modern Family finished as TV's #2 scripted show for the week in the young adult demo and moved up to a definitive #1 in the Live + 7 Day statistics, jumping over CBS' Two and a Half Men to lead by 4% (7.8).

· A total of 7 of ABC's series gained 2.0 million viewers or more on average from their initially reported totals via time-shifted viewing: Modern Family (+4.82 million - top gainer overall), Grey's Anatomy (+3.29 million), Castle (+2.82 million), Body of Proof (+2.60 million), Revenge (+2.39 million), Private Practice (+2.38 million) and Desperate Housewives (+2.02 million).

· Among Adults 18-49, 7 of ABC's series registered substantial ratings increases of 8-tenths of rating point or more: Modern Family - top gainer overall (+2.4 rating - 5.7 to 8.1), Grey's Anatomy - biggest drama gainer (+1.7 rating - 3.1 to 4.8), Private Practice (+1.3 rating - 2.1 to 3.4), Desperate Housewives (+0.9 rating - 2.8 to 3.7), Castle (+0.9 rating - 2.5 to 3.4), Revenge (+0.9 rating - 2.4 to 3.3) and Pan Am (+0.8 rating - 1.9 to 2.7).

Season-to-Date DVR Playback:

Three weeks into the new season, ABC's Modern Family and Grey's Anatomy are the season's Top 2 biggest gainers among Adults 18-49, picking up 2.3 rating points and 1.7 rating points, respectively. Modern Family is also the season's biggest overall gainer among Total Viewers (+4.64 million).
