Live + 7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Modern Family" Emerges as TV's Most-Watched Comedy

Live + 7 Day Ratings for the week of 1/14/13 (Week #17):

Based on Nielsen's TV playback data for the week, Modern Family gained an additional 4.51 million viewers in the Live + 7 Day numbers to emerge as TV's most-watched comedy (15.5 million). With the ABC sitcom and Castle (+3.80 million viewers), ABC claimed the week's 2 biggest gainers via time-shifted viewing in Total Viewers. ABC also had the 2 biggest gainers in Adults 18-49 with Modern Family (+2.1 rating points) and Grey's Anatomy (+1.6 rating points). In fact, Modern Family was the week's biggest gainer among young adults in each of its 11 original telecasts and Grey's qualified as the week's biggest drama gainer for its 4th consecutive original broadcast.

In addition, ABC delivered 6 of the 10 biggest percentage gainers in TV playback on broadcast among Adults 18-49, with the penultimate episode of Private Practice jumping 92% over its initially reported Live + Same Day rating (+1.1 rating points - 1.2 to 2.3): Private Practice - #1 (+92%), Revenge - #3 (+59%), Castle - #4 (+58%), Once Upon a Time - #5 (+54%), Last Man Standing - #6 (+54%) and Grey's Anatomy - #8 (+53%).

· ABC delivered 8 of the Top 15 biggest overall gainers, with each show adding on at least 2.5 million viewers over their first-reported Live + Same Day numbers: Modern Family (+4.51 million), Castle (+3.80 million), Grey's Anatomy (+3.25 million), Once Upon a Time (+3.03 million), Revenge (+2.64 million), Nashville (+2.63 million), Scandal (+2.49 million) and Private Practice (+2.48 million).

· Among Adults 18-49, 8 of ABC's series registered substantial ratings increases of at least 1.0 rating point: Modern Family (+2.1 rating points), Grey's Anatomy (+1.6 rating points), Once Upon a Time (+1.3 rating points), Scandal (+1.1 rating points), Nashville (+1.1 rating points) Castle (+1.1 rating points), Private Practice (+1.1 rating points) and Revenge (+1.0 rating points).

Season-to-Date TV Playback (9/24/12-1/20/13):

Based on TV playback data for the 2012-13 season, ABC's Modern Family is the season's biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, adding on +4.52 million viewers and +2.3 rating points.

· Grey's Anatomy is this season's #1 broadcast drama in the key young adult demo (5.0 rating), based on original telecasts.
