AT THAT AGE (NBC) - Sinqua Walls has been cast in the long-in-the-works drama pilot as Layton Cooper, "the youngest of the siblings. Rough around the edges, but still has the Cooper charm." The project was originally ordered to pilot in January 2020, but was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. (Deadline.com)
ESSEX SERPENT, THE (Apple TV+) - Tom Hiddleston is set to star opposite Claire Danes in the upcoming drama as Will Ransome, "the trusted leader of a small rural community." (Deadline.com)
EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS (UPN) - CBS Studios is developing an animated reboot of the former comedy staple with Chris Rock expected to return as the narrator. Rock and Ali LeRoi created the series based on Rock's teen years. Michael Rotenberg will also serve as an executive producer. No other specifics were given about the project, which is about to hit the marketplace. (Deadline.com)
GIRL BEFORE, THE (HBO Max) - Jessica Plummer has scored a role on the Gugu Mbatha-Raw/David Oyelowo-led limited series as Emma: "Fun loving and confident, Emma is stuck working at an unfulfilling marketing job, and is less than satisfied with her partner. For her, One Folgate Street's stone walls represent security, safety and renewal. But Emma is hiding a dark secret and, living in the pressure cooker that is One Folgate Street, the truth will out in the end." (Deadline.com)
MASTERS OF THE AIR (Apple TV+) - Anthony Boyle is set to star opposite Austin Butler and Calum Turner in the WWII limited series as Major Crosby. No other specifics about the role were given. (Deadline.com)
PANTHER BABY (Starz, New!) - Jamal Joseph has sold a small screen take on his memoir to the pay channel, billed as "the coming-of-age story of a young, sheltered, Black boy who gets thrust into the Black Panther Movement where he finds his identity, cause and manhood in late 1960s Harlem." Gina Prince-Bythewood is also on board to direct and executive produce alongside Joseph, Scott Frank, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly for CBS Studios. Reggie Rock Bythewood is producing. PEPPA PIG (Nickelodeon) - Entertainment One has extended the children's animated series by 104 episodes, brings its series total to 485 episodes, taking it well into 2027. The news comes as animation studio Astley Baker Davies (Neville Astley, Mark Baker and Phil Davies) has opted to hand off future production to fellow U.K.-based Karrot however head writer Phill Hall and its voice talent will remain unchanged. Season nine of 26 episodes will roll out this spring in the U.S. (Deadline.com)
SHTISEL (Netflix) - Writer Lauren Gussis and director Kenneth Lonergan are looking to import the Israeli drama, billed as "a modern-day Romeo and Juliet story about an ultra-progressive, over-achieving secular eighteen-year-old young woman on the verge of personal freedom, and the strictly observant Orthodox young man to whom she is powerfully drawn - so powerfully that she is willing to uproot her entire life to be with him." CBS Studios and Fremantle are behind the project, which is currently making the network rounds. (Deadline.com)
TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORIES (The CW) - Lisa Morales has been tapped as showrunner of the series' third season. She'll work alongside creator Vera Miao and fellow executive producer Liz Levine. Liz Alper also joins as a producer while Stephanie Adams-Santos, Sehaj Sethi and Lekethia Dalcoe have been named story editors. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BALDWIN & GRAMMER PROJECT (ABC) - Sitcom legend James Burrows has signed on to direct and executive produce the debut installment of the multi-camera series, starring Alec Baldwin, Kelsey Grammer and Alec Mapa. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED LAKERS PROJECT (HBO) - Oscar winner Adrien Brody has been cast as legendary head coach Pat Riley in the series, which chronicles the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports' most revered and dominant dynasties - a team that defined its era, both on and off the court.
