ACOLYTE, THE (Disney+) - Jodie Turner-Smith is on track to star alongside Amandla Stenberg in the latest "Star Wars" series. No character details were given. (Deadline.com)
BLOOM COUNTY (FOX) - Tim Long has been tapped to co-write the network's animated series based on Berkeley Breathed's 1980s comic strip. He'll also serve as showrunner should the project move forward. (Deadline.com)
BURNING GIRLS, THE (Paramount+) - Samantha Morton and Ruby Stokes will topline the C.J. Tudor adaptation: "Morton will play Reverend Jack Brooks, a single parent haunted by a tragedy from her previous church and who bears the onus of her husband's death. Stokes is her daughter Flo, a teenager who marches to the beat of her own drum. Both arrive in Chapel Croft in the hope of a fresh start, however, they soon find the village rife with conspiracies and secrets." Conrad Khan, Rupert Graves, Elodie Grace Orkin, Janie Dee, David Dawson, Paul Bradley, Jane Lapotaire, Jack Roth, Mollie Holder, Safia Oakley-Green, Beth Cordingly and John Macmillian also star in unspecified roles. CLEAN SLATE (Freevee) - The streamer has ordered the Laverne Cox/George Wallace-led comedy to series: "Clean Slate follows Henry (Wallace), an old-school and outspoken car wash owner, who is thrilled his estranged child is finally returning home to Alabama after 17 years. However, Henry has a lot of soul searching to do when the child he thought was a son returns as the determined, proud, trans woman, Desiree (Cox)." The pair wrote the story with Dan Ewen, who in turn penned the pilot script. Cox, Ewen, Norman Lear and and Brent Miller are the executive producers for Act III Productions and Sony Pictures Television with Wallace and Paul Hilepo as producers. (Deadline.com)
